Siegfried H. Elsing, a partner in the Düsseldorf office of Orrick Hölters & Elsing and senior partner for Germany, is a member of the firm's International Arbitration and Corporate Groups.

Mr. Elsing has more than 30 years of experience as litigation and international arbitration counsel, having represented private investors, international companies, sovereign states and state agencies in a wide range of significant and complex cross-border disputes. He is admitted as an attorney in both Germany and New York and acted as counsel in more than 100 appellate court cases. He also served as counsel, party-appointed arbitrator, sole arbitrator or chairman (currently more than 150 arbitrations), to include ad hoc proceedings, as well as arbitral proceedings under the auspices of leading arbitral institutions (DIS, HCCI, HKIAC, ICC, SCC, VIAC and others).

Mr. Elsing appeared as a legal expert witness in both the German courts and the U.S. and UK courts (on German law matters) and before foreign law-making institutions. Mr. Elsing's experience extends to disputes involving, inter alia, M&A transactions, investments, construction contracts, loan agreements and other financing arrangements, joint ventures, licensing agreements and distributorship agreements as well as energy law. He also advises frequently in corporate, financing, licensing, construction, joint venture and M&A transactions both domestically and internationally.

In 2011, Mr. Elsing’s designation to serve on the Panel of Conciliators for the Administrative Council of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) was announced by Robert B. Zoellick, President of the World Bank and Chairman of the Administrative Council ICSID.

In 2012 the general meeting of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS) in Bonn elected Mr. Elsing as a Member of its Board of Directors.

Mr. Elsing co-founded the German law firm Hölters & Elsing in 1989 and oversaw the firm's merger with Orrick in 2009.

Mr. Elsing graduated from Münster Law School (Dr jur.) and holds an LL.M from Yale Law School. He is a frequent lecturer and author on the topics of international arbitration and comparative law and is honorary professor at Heinrich-Heine-University, Faculty of Law, Düsseldorf, where he teaches international commercial arbitration and international civil procedure.
