Girls’ Day@Orrick Hölters & Elsing
The first Girls’ Day in Germany took place in 2001. Motivated by the American model "take our daughters to work day", which was initiated in the USA in 1993, individual companies in Germany predominantly in industry and trade invite girls from 5th grade upwards into their companies. This is supported by various ministries and organizations. The girls have the opportunity to get to know job places in the technological, scientific and trade sectors, i.e. the aim is to attract the girls to areas that are not specifically female.
This year Orrick Hölters & Elsing also took part in Girls Day on April 22nd. It was
organized by
Dr. Erich Michel, Corporate Partner in our
Frankfurt office; he and his team actively supported this initiative. The Orrick Hölters &
Elsing motto was: "Job description: Female partner in an international law firm".
Two girls took part in Girls' Day: Nadine Skerlavaj and Saskia Ammann, both 12 years old;
they are in the 7th grade of a high school in Bretten (Baden Wuerttemberg). Dr. Michel told them
about the firm and showed them round the offices. Our two female partners,
Jutta Schneider and
Dr. Annette Bödeker , were interviewed by the
girls; together they discussed the training and work of a female lawyer/partner/ notary in their
individual areas. The practical part was included, they helped to prepare a notarized document.
The day was interesting and successful for all involved. The girls left with many new impressions and a lot of information. Due to the positive response we will no doubt take part in Girls' Day again next year.
